I have an older lilac bush that is 5' high x about 6' in circumference It needs to be moved to a sunny ....

location out back. The previous owner put it in a shady spot out front! Thus it responds to nothing, but would look great out back! I%26#039;ve done some research, but I don%26#039;t know if I have all the facts as opinions vary. I need some great help here.....Do you know?

You should probably wait until it goes dormant before trying to transplant it. If you are in no hurry to move it, you can also root prune it by using a spade to cut the roots where you would dig the root ball . This encourages the root to grow so that you will have more roots attached when you actually move it.

Although by the sounds of things, this is going to be pretty heavy and also need a pretty good hole to go in. It may be more work thatn it is worth to try and transplant it. You could get a new one or try to grow a new one from a cutting.
Reply:Little lilac don%26#039;t cost much, buy one and put it where you want one and see if you like it. Moving the old one will be expensive as it will have to be spaded.
